The Body and Blood of Christ  June23 2019

The feast of the Body
and Blood of Christ, once Corpus Christi, brings the Eucharist out into
the streets.  Processions once in every parish, still take place.  The
 procession can remind us
of the gospel scene today where Jesus fed the crowds.
Receiving communion is
not a private event. While really personal, it is also a community
event. The feast today gathers us together to be fed.  The bread for
the feeding of the crowd came
from someone who had only five loaves and two fish.  The distribution
was a community activity also, as the people sat together in groups.
Maybe the generosity of
Jesus in feeding the crowd reminded them of their responsibility to
feed each other.  Maybe they also shared any food they had brought.

Toady also the
Eucharist is for sharing.  We gather to hear God’s word, receive the
bread of life and then to be sent out. Important words of the mass are
‘God in peace and glorify the Lord
in your lives’. The Sunday Eucharist, the gift of the Body and Blood
of the Lord, is a gift to be shared all week.

Lord, may we give the daily bread of compassion and love to all we meet.
